The mere mention of fleas carries the potential to cause itching sensation in any living soul. The imagery of these blood-sucking insects, which we have in our mind, is not positive in nature. Not to mention, our state of mind when we discover, these pests on our pet’s body.
Expanding the above thought and most of you would already be aware of the fact that, fleas dwelling nature is not limited to our gullible pets only. They considered us humans to be their second enemy, after our beloved pets. The survival of an insect like flea depends on two aspects -
The possibility of fleas, targeting us Homo sapiens can better be answered by exploring the above two key aspects related to these parasites. It is a well-known fact that fleas find warm environment conducive for their reproduction process. During this season, their numbers peaked and this is the time, when they trouble our pet friends, the most. Now consider your case, are you not a warm-blooded mammal? Are you not living in the same environment, in which your pet lives? Thus, are you immune from the same pests, which trouble your pet? The above raised questions points, the finger in single direction, strengthening the notion of humans getting, affected by flea menace. However, there is a catch in the situation. When we look at our pet’s physical features, the most striking thing we come across in them is their furry coat. Their furry coat protects them from weather hostilities acting as the shield for them. At the same time, this, anatomical feature of theirs proves to be the hiding place for these blood sucking pests like fleas. This makes your pet a natural candidate, for flea-infestation. Now, Homo sapiens though being a warm-blooded animal does not possess the same hairy features as your pet possess. This makes these pests easily identifiable in a human structure. But yes, they do attack a human body, only to be get indentified and get ridden of. The same is not possible with our pet friends, with their body structure restricting them to take a proactive and immediate measure by on its own to get rid of these fleas. This factor makes us humans less vulnerable to fleas as compared to our beloved pets. It is noteworthy that a pet can also transfer fleas to his pet parent. Thus, a proper flea control program to get rid of flea menace becomes mandatory, on part of pet parents. On the question of whether human get fleas, the answer is yes. But, again no, when it comes to degree of suffering, which a pet undergoes because of fleas. At the same time, the possibility of fleas living on a human’s body for a longer duration is not high.
