Adding a new pet member to the family can be totally exciting, but along with all the excitement comes the skepticism about the correct ways of taking its care. You might have a lot of questions on your mind regarding what to do and what not to. But let us first tell you, parenting a puppy can be quite demanding. It’s not just about the expenses, it’s about the time and devotion that you’ll have to offer to familiarize them with your home, to understand their language of communication, and the most difficult task—training them to understand your commands!
If you are thinking of adopting a new puppy or are already a new pet-parent (this equally electrifies us as much as you!), here are a few tips that will help you take better care of your new furry family member: The Introduction: The first day of your new puppy at your home can be very exciting for your family, especially kids. But one should always remember that big life changes like moving into a new house can be quite challenging for them, just like it is for us humans when we move into a new place. A new puppy may want to explore the new smells, sounds, surroundings, and family members. Let them explore it all but make sure to keep them on a leash. However, they shouldn’t be tied all the time so it’s better to give them some freedom too when you can keep an eye on them to avoid any accidents. You can also decorate a dog house for your new pup’s housewarming! Moreover, all the family members should be well-versed with the breed of the dog and how to deal with them in the initial phase as a few breeds may not be very friendly with the new people. Once your pet will be familiar with the fam, they’ll always be ‘their’ people! The Basic Necessities: The first and foremost basic necessity for any living being is food. Do not stock up on one kind of pet-food as you still don’t know about the likes and dislikes of your new furry member. Also, it is important to know what kind of food meets your pup’s nutritional requirements. There are a number of different pet foods available in the market that is formulated for different purposes. You can use the trial packs that come in small quantities to decide which one is best for them. If you want to feed them home-made food, make sure you have well-researched about the foods that are safe for dogs. Apart from this, pups love to naps as much as a newborn baby does. Provide them with good bedding (you can also get dog-crates) so that they can take comfortable naps. To ensure your pup’s safety, puppy-proofing your home is also recommended. The First Vet Visit: Another important step that you must follow after bringing a new puppy home is taking them to a veterinarian. A vet can thoroughly examine it and check if it is completely healthy. A vet can also guide you about the food they should be fed and the vaccination programs suitable for them. Moreover, they can also guide you regarding the early signs and symptoms of illnesses to look for. Training: New-young pups have to be treated as newborn human babies. You’ll have to house-train and crate-train them, and also establish their bathroom routine. Teaching your dog to sit, walk, and stay on your commands will not only impress your friend but will also help you to control them under unavoidable circumstances. You can find a lot of amazing blogs and videos about dog training on the internet. However, training a pup is no walk in the park. It demands patience, planning, commitment, lots of positive reinforcement, and even the loss of your laptop chargers. So be prepared! Socializing: Socialization can be started at the age of 2 to 3 months. It is very much necessary for all the puppies to socialize with other humans and animals to avoid behavioral and anxiety issues at the later stage. You must introduce and familiarize them with the outsiders so that they become friendly and loving on growing up. Your commitment and dedication to helping your newly adopted puppy to adapt and mould according to your routine and environment will give you the most loyal, adorable, and affectionate paw-mate for years!
